Project Dontabhaktuni

Empowering You to Empower Others

WHO ARE WE?

The goal of “Project Dontabhaktuni” is to support students and scientists all over the world who want to learn about drug development particularly in the area of clinical pharmacology and pharmacometrics. The mission of this nonprofit organization is to guide and empower budding scientists in achieving their career goals, by providing low-cost workshops, and access to mentoring programs which would lead to expedited drug development, appropriate drug therapy, and better patient outcomes.

In the last 3 years, 2000 PhD and PharmD Scientists from 40 countries around the world have participated in workshops hosted by “Project Dontabhaktuni”. This overwhelming response has been encouraging and yet it is evident that there is a big void between supply and demand. We are seeing a thirst for knowledge in the scientific communities around the world, especially in developing countries like India, South America, many African countries, and China. Scientists yearn to learn more about clinical pharmacology and pharmacometrics and yet, there are not many avenues where these courses are being offered. We are addressing this demand and would like to continue to do so and hope to expand our reach.

3-months Hands-on Workshop in Pharmacometrics

This workshop covered the fundamentals of Pharmacometrics and PK/PD modeling, a practical introduction to the R environment and will enable delegates to achieve confidence and proficiency in R with specific reference to pharmacometrics modelling using RsNLME - Certara’s new biosimulation tool.

The Method of Averaging Applied to PK/PD Modeling

The computational effort required to fit the PD part of a PK/PD model can be considerable if the differential equations describing the model are solved numerically using Method of Averaging (MoA). This workshop explained the basis of the MoA by means of a simple mathematical derivation.

Role of Model-Informed Drug Development

Most new compounds fail in drug development before ever reaching the market.  The high cost of new drugs is driven by this high attrition rate.  This workshop discussed how quantitative methods, including modeling and simulation, can help address this challenge. This workshop will provide examples of the application of MIDD with a focus on the impact on trial design and development strategy.

R for Pharmacometrics

In October and November 2020, we hosted a two-day beginner workshop titled “R for Pharmacometrics” by Dr. Surulivel Rajan Mallayasamy, Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Manipal College, in Manipal, India. This was a live hands-on course with over 70 registrations from around the world
